“Lord, I will cling to Thee, please never forsake me”

Lord, I will cling to Thee, please never forsake me”

Around the end of March, 2018, I was toiling away at my computer keyboard when suddenly this song of praise, Lord, I will cling to Thee” came to me.

It’s a short song and I can’t explain how it happened but I spent some time jotting the words down on paper and within a few days, I had it all completed.

I never learned how to write music but I instinctively know the rhythm of the song.

Whenever I am experiencing defeat or depression or just feeling plain down and out, I sing this song in my head and it lifts me up and gives me encouragement to keep on playing this game called “life”.

I will like to share it with you and hope that it does for you what it has been doing for me.

Incidentally, if a musician reads this and is interested in writing the music to the song so that the world can be inspired, then I will welcome it with open arms:

“Lord, I will cling to Thee” by Frank Flandinette:

Lord, I wake up every morning

And plant the seeds of Thy Word into the soil of my heart

Lord, I bless and glorify the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son

For what He endured for me

Lord, what can I possibly do?

To thank You for what You have done

To save a wretch like me

Lord, what is my worth to Thee?

It was all done through Thy grace

When You paid the penalty for my sins

Lord, this life is not about me

But the focus is on Thee

Lord, please teach me how to serve

In whatever capacity You see

That is befitting for me

Lord, it is the least I can do

Chorus:

Lord, take away this heart of stone

And make it soft as clay

To display love to all

Just like the example You made

Lord, I will not be dismayed

For I know that You will never forsake me

In my time of need, Lord

I will cling to Thee

Lord, what is this life but a mist?

Here today, gone tomorrow

Please open our eyes to see

That Salvation is more important than the pursuit of material things

Lord, may we all surrender our lives to Thee

To strive to exemplify the fruit of Thy spirit

So that we can be called the true children of God

Lord, teach us how to store treasures in heaven

For all of the world to see

That we are serving only one Master

It’s what You command us to do

We are all heavenly bound

Enduring our tribulations with joy

Awaiting that great and wonderful day

When we are welcomed home to our eternal joy

Chorus:

Lord, take away this heart of stone

And make it soft as clay

To display love to all

Just like the example You made

Lord, I will never be dismayed

For I know that You will never forsake me

In my time of need

Lord, I will cling to Thee
